Training focused on Solar Photovoltaic components and systems, site analysis, design tools, and the knowledge you need to get a job or advance your career in the solar industry. Learn about residential rebates, tax incentives, permitting, jurisdictional issues, and other key skills needed in solar site planning. Hands-on labs will be conducted with solar assessment tools & energy consumption data. With the knowledge gained in this course, students may qualify to work in as a Solar Site Planner or Project Manager.

Introduction to Geographic Information Systems and Global Positioning Systems
This course examines the theory behind Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and their application to spatial data. This course is designed to take an interdisciplinary approach to GIS and demonstrate its capability for analysis and decision-making in diverse industries and academic disciplines. Students will use ARC GIS software.

Cartographic Design for GIS
Preq: PKMGT 016A Builds on material presented on PKMGT 016A using state of the art desktop GIS software. This courses introduces the student to spatial analysis/querying . Student refines data acquisition to take an interdisciplinary approach to GIS and demonstrate its capability for analysis and decision-making in diverse industries and academic disciplines.

Spatial Analysis for Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Preq: PKMGT 016A Course provides a detailed examination of spatial information systems and s survey of quantitative techniques applicable to spatial data.
Credit/No Credit Option.
Students will gain knowledge in the design and layout of Solar Photovoltaic for residential and commercial systems. Learn how to optimize Solar PV design & placement, necessary elements of design, how to determine power usage needs and solar system sizing, costing & permitting. Return on investment analysis for real case studies will be used. Afternoon classes meet Tuesdays & Thursdays for 3 weeks.
This program will teach skills needed to enter the wind-energy workforce and meets the needs of today’s utility-scale wind industry. This course offers instruction in all recommended OSHA, wind specific and technical safety areas including installation and repair. Classes will meet September - November 2009, twice a week for 9 weeks and includes an overnight field trip to a wind farm.
This course is designed to improve your base knowledge of renewable energy to provide you with a foundation for working in the “Green Technology” sector. It will give you an understanding of the basic concepts of emerging green technologies, including Solar PV, Wind, Geothermal, Hydroelectric, & Biofuels. Also, an overview of Global Warming and Greenhouse Gas emissions will be given.
This course covers important aspects of the requirements for energy efficient buildings. Key topics include: Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation - HVAC, lighting, lighting controls, and insulation. Also includes discussion of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and Green Building concepts.
