BUS 05: Introduction to Project Management (4 units)
This course shows students how to effectively complete projects by setting efficient timelines, creating realistic budgets,
developing supplier and customer relationships, and establishing good work teams.
Project management software that incorporates PERT and Gantt charts is utilized.

BUS 06: Negotiation Principles (3 units)
This class helps students to develop their negotiation skills through the study of communication dynamics, goal setting, establishing tactics, assessing one's bargaining power, and resolving conflicts. One-on-one and group role playing scenarios give students hands-on negotiating experience. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 25: Electronic Commerce Technologies (3 units)
This class gives students a foundation in e-commerce, e-business and business-to-business technologies and portals. E-commerce solutions, initiatives, and technical requirements are highlighted.
BUS 28: Business Law (3 units)
This course provides a general introduction to the American legal environment that affects individuals, businesses, and business transactions. Topics covered in the class include contracts, torts, the American legal system, and dispute resolution. Meets University of California, and California State University requirements, along with those of most private schools.
BUS 30: Quality Management (3 units)
In this class students gain an understanding of Dr. W. Edward Deming's 14 points of quality, Six Sigma, and ISO standards. Continuous workplace improvements through statistical process control, team building, and supplier, customer and employee feedback are reviewed. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 32: Leadership (3 units)
This course helps students to develop skills for understanding behavior and interpreting workplace norms. Team communication, conflict resolution, motivation, goal-setting and delegation are addressed. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 33: Functions of Management (3 units)
In this course students analyze schools of management thought and learn about the fundamental management practices: planning, organizing, staffing, and controlling. Corporate social responsibility will be addressed. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 34: Human Resource Management (3 units)
This class teaches students about effective recruitment and selection methods, affirmative action, training and development, performance appraisals, compensation and benefits, and the legal aspects of Human Resource Management. Private and public organizations are examined. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 35: Retail Management (3 units)
This course reviews the various types of retail firms and their competitive environments. Students learn about consumer behavior, product analysis, location and store layout, materials management, pricing, promotion, and budgeting. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 36: Strategic Management (3 units)
This course explores planning techniques for achieving competitive advantage in today's business environment. Students learn about strategy formulation, evaluation of internal and external factors, and effective strategy implementation. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 40: Sales Strategies (3 units)
This course examines the nature and concept of sales principles and strategies. Students learn how to approach a prospect, do an effective sales presentation, motivate a customer, handle complaints, and close a sale. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 51: Introduction to Business (3 units)
This class provides students with an understanding of the functions, objectives, ethics, and environment of business in the U.S. and in the larger global economy. Topics covered include sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, international trade, human resource management, and business/government relations. Meets University of California and California State University requirements along with those of most private schools.
BUS 51 partially fulfills Information Competency graduation requirements.
BUS 54: Small Business Startup and Management (3 units)
This course explores entrepreneurship, and the steps for opening and managing a business venture. Topics covered include buying an existing business, entering a franchise agreement, starting a business from scratch, and starting a home based business. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 56: Marketing Principles (3 units)
In this class students learn about marketing as a strategic process that analyzes macro and micro economic environments in order to create the optimal "marketing mix" for a product portfolio. Students learn about target markets, market research, demographic variables and marketing budgets. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 57: Stock Market Investments (3 units)
In this class students learn the fundamentals of making sound security investment decisions. Course topics include: investment risks, the investment process, organizations issuing securities, investment brokers as well as the laws covering their activities. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 58: Mutual Fund Investments (1 unit)
This is a practical class that teaches students how to invest in mutual funds. Students will learn about mutual fund history, mutual fund categories including expenses, record keeping and taxes. The course will explore fund selection based on investor objectives and retirement planning strategies.
BUS 61: Business and Society (3 units)
This course examines business and its impact on society and society's influence on business. Included in the class is a critical and comparative examination of business ethics, the global environment of business, and the societal challenges of business activity. BUS 61 satisfies the West Valley College AA degree AA degree Area E and the CSU Area D requirements.
BUS 62: Business Mathematics (3 units)
This course reviews basic math principles and applies them to the following areas: banking services, buying and selling merchandise, simple and compound interest relative to investments and annuities, credit, taxes, insurance, and depreciation. Acceptable for California State University credit.
BUS 66: Human Relations in Business (3 units)
This course emphasizes personal and interpersonal relationships, developing leadership and business success, fostering teamwork, and building commitment by using human relations theories. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 68: Organizational Behavior (3 units)
This course investigates and illustrates behavior patterns in organizations on an individual, group, and organization-system level. Students are given skill building opportunities that enable them to understand why people behave in certain ways in the workplace. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 70: Effective Office Skills (3 units)
This course covers business skills, decision making, and developing business procedures. Topics include the electronic office, technology and procedures, document creation and distribution, business reports, and financial and legal procedures. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 71: Administrative Record Keeping (3 units)
This course reviews and strengthens elementary math and ten key skills as they relate to business and it introduces the basic principles of bookkeeping.
BUS 72: Administrative Communication (3 units)
This class emphasized the importance of office communication skills to improve speaking, writing and listening abilities. Topics include: human relations, oral presentation, telephone techniques, grammar, and basic letter and memo writing.
BUS 78: Business Communication (3 units)
This class explores techniques used to improve communication ability in the business world. Students learn how to do effective oral presentations and how to write clear, succinct business letters, memoranda, resumes and reports. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 81: Advertising Principles (3 units)
This course is an introduction to the basic principles and techniques of advertising as applied to business and to media. Advertising campaigns and their effectiveness will be studied. Acceptable for California State University credit
BUS 301-304: Business Occupational Work Experience (1-4 units)
These courses involve the supervised employment of students in positions that relate to their field of study. Students increase their understanding of the work world as well as their chosen field. Units are awarded based on hours worked and the successful completion of learning objectives. No more than sixteen units of work experience can be counted towards an associate degree. Acceptable for California State University credit
