The Department Offers both the Associate of Science and Certificate of Achievements in the Following Categories:

A Brief Summary of Certificate Requirements:
| Certificate | Machine Shorthand | Requirements |
| Legal Secretary | N/A | The services provided by a legal secretary may range from that of a legal word processor to that of an administrative assistant for one or more attorneys in large or small firms. |
| Note Reading and Scoping Technologist | 80-100 wpm | A scopist edits and proofreads legal transcripts. Scopists may work at home, in a court reporter’s office, or at a courthouse. |
| Office Assistant / Transcription Technologist | 80-140 wpm | Machine shorthand writers perform standard office responsibilities and data entry, as well as taking minutes at board meetings and presentations. |
| Legal Transcription Technologist | 80-140 wpm | A legal transcriptionist works for law offices and courts using machine shorthand for data entry of legal documents and transcription of tape recordings. |
| A. S. Degree or Certificate in Court Reporting | 200-220 wpm | Court Reporters report verbatim the legal proceedings which take place in courtroom and deposition settings. The WVC Court Reporting program prepares reporters for licensing examinations. |
