Program Options
Program Information Physical Education is the study of human movement. The discipline includes the study of sport sociology, sport psychology, sport philosophy, teaching and coaching sports medicine, sport management, sport history, bio-mechanics, motor learning, motor development exercise, physiology and wellness. Career Paths The 17 unit Certificate of Proficiency is a program for students who wish to begin their career goals at an entry level position in the following areas:
Additionally, West Valley College offers an A.A. degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sports Medicine. Certified Athletic Trainers make a major contribution to the care of an athlete. Professional responsibilities include minimizing the risk of injury, evaluating and rehabilitating injuries as well as supervising nutrition and training regimens. A Bachelor's Degree from a NATA (National athletic Trainers Association) accredited college or university is required for certification. West Valley College serves as a satellite site with San Jose Sate University, an Accredited Athletic Training program, in fulfilling requirements toward certification.
