Textbooks:      We are building a textbook lending library.  At the end of the semester please remember to donate your old textbooks to the club.  Our goal is to have enough textbooks that club members will no longer have to spend money on books.

Election:      The election paperwork has been mailed.  Your new leaders are:  Deb Renick, Barbara Tuma, Shauna Aragon, Cassie Lindberg, Linda Dietz, Tammy Tanner, Joni Hildreth, Bonnie Thomas, Elizabeth Hildreth, and Teresa Kasl.  There are still a few positions that have not been filled.  Please talk to any leader or advisor if you wish to apply for the position.  No experience is necessary.   Ballots will be tallied Thursday October 10, 2002.     All new leaders receive these great benefits:

q       Certificate naming your leadership position to go in your portfolio.

q       A calendar organizer book  (These are being ordered)

q       Hotel expense for the upcoming Student Leadership Conference.

q       Learn new skills and experience.

q       SCTA membership

Committee Member:      To be considered an active member of the club you will need to belong to at least one committee.   Even if you are a "web" member, you can still participate through the web page and emails.

·      Membership & Partnering Committee

·      Development & Resource Committee

·      Events, Activities, Travel & Fundraising Committee

·      Meetings & Community Service Committee

Lapel Pins:      Some of the club members shared at a recent club meeting that they would rather wear lapel pins instead of T-Shirts.  I received a quote and layout for Pins.  The membership & partnering committee will vote on pin design.

Master Plan For Education:      Ask Shauna or Dan for a summary of the event.

CSET – Is coming!

What is a CSET?  California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) is the new test replacing the SSAT and Praxis II.   English, math, the sciences, and social science tests start in January 2003.   What about the other subject-matter’s?  Yes they will replaced by the CSET as well.   For more information you can check out the CCTC web site (http://www.ctc.ca.gov/profserv/examinfo/singlesubject.html), the National Evaluation Systems (NES) who will be administering these tests (www.cset.nesinc.com), or the Coded-Correspondence 02-0008 about the CSET.

CBEST Test Prep: We all are supposed to be taking the CBEST test, yet none of us ever seem to have the time to get around to it.  So, what do you think about schedule all of us to take the CBEST in December?  We can plan some CBEST Test Prep meetings (The off Thursdays).  Many people need to take the test several times before passing – so we might as well start now.   This will go to the Development Committee.

Student Leadership Conference:      Our goal is to have 20 club members attend the leadership conference in November because it will be held in Santa Clara this year.  Last year it was held in Southern California.   Many of us have talked about staying at the hotel to be near the action and have more time to visit the hundreds of other future teachers that will be attending.   We could squeeze 4 people into a room (2 double beds) or even more if someone wants to sleep on the floor.  The costs would not be very much……

To Do:

  1. Invite other people interested in teaching to our next meeting Oct 24 2002!

  1. Email me and let me know how we can better meet your needs this next semester.

  1. What’s your address?  We have sent things in the mail, have you received anything?

  1. What’s your email address?  We email reminders about the club, and meeting summaries.  If you have not received these, please update your email address.

  1. Go to a conference! Learn, network, get to know other club members, and even earn a certificate to put in your teacher portfolio showing pre-professional development.
