Attendance:
The meeting west by quickly this evening due to the fact we had so much to discuss. Much of our time was spent on choosing "Reading" themes. See the "TO DO LIST" below. We also spent time talking about a sample teacher portfolio using the name "Ima Teacher". We also talked about using the Tech Center for some hands on time making a resume. We played some games and did a few sharing activities that resulted in many prizes. In fact everyone that attended walked away with something. The guest speaker was Mae Conroy the Teach For Tomorrow Program director. She talked about teaching and showed a short video. Some statistics she shared: California Teacher Need:

Taking Action to learn more about the profession student's should: 1. Join a club or take a class. 2. Visit their library or CalTeach web site. 3. Talk with favorite teachers. 4. Conduct reach on the topic. 5. Enroll in college, or if you already have a BA then enroll in a credential program. To conclude the evening Shauna gave out a copy of a few poems that she received during the SCTA executive board meeting.

August 4-9 2002 - SCTA/CTA/NEA - Summer Institute UCLA Issues will be an integral part of the four strands: Negotiations and Finance; Instruction and Professional Development; Communications; and Community College Association. Below are links, fees, and more information: www.cta.org August 12, 2002 - Club Meeting August 23, 2002 - Club Retreat / Training Conference November 16-17 2002 - Fall Leadership Conference - Santa Clara The SCTA members established this conference to help all SCTA members acquire leadership and organizational skills needed not only while SCTA club members ---- but also as a teacher. This conference is mandatory for all club officers --- and future officers. Early registration is only $15.00. This conference fills up fast --- so we need to register as soon as possible. Our goal is to have the largest contingent there!!! January 24-26 2003 SCTA/CTA Good Teaching Conference Burlingame Weekend of classroom management techniques, curriculum, learning styles and other topics of interests to new teachers. This conference is designed for professional teachers --- but SCTA members are invited to attend.... (At a significant discount!).
