Summary of meetings & events
Teachers of Tomorrow Club Information Sheet – September 12,
2002 This
year meetings will be a little different. There
will be drawings for prizes, speakers, and committee time. This week there will be a book exchange, book sell and book
donations. The club wants to
address the high costs of buying textbooks. We
thought we'd provide time for club members to exchange text books with each
other, sell old text books, buy used textbooks, and make donations to our new
textbook lending library. Once our
fund raising committee gets going, we will have funds to buy a few additional
textbooks to add to our library. We
had an excellent leadership meeting last week.
We discussed several goals and objectives for the year and assigned them
into new committees and create a very long timeline for the year. Presentations:
Mae Conroy will present a short video about teaching.
Shauna will present a slide show about poverty & education. Registration
for associations, conferences and meetings. Goals
for 2002-2003 year (300+ club members, 201 SCTA members, Largest teacher's
club in California, Repeat as "Club of the Year", attend more conferences
& Travel to either Europe or Australia this summer). We
have a few opportunities for you go-getters out there: 1. Friday September 20th
Community Service Reading Opportunity. We will be going out into local
schools as part of our community service reading program.
This time will read and/or participate in an art project. Certificates
will be made for both the college students reading to the classes as well as the
teachers of the classrooms. The
events committee and VP can answer any questions you might have. 2. Club Officer
We will be having elections very soon for club officers.
Attached is a list of positions available. No experience is necessary – so don't be shy!
This is a good way to learn new skills.
The advisors and past officers will help you along - all it takes is a
commitment interest in serving the club, and an investment of time.
This is also a great way to add to your portfolio.
Just fill out a club registration form and submit a 35 word paragraph to
include on the ballot. 4. Committee Member:
During our recent leadership retreat/meeting we created several goals for
the upcoming year, and started to create a few committees. To be considered an
active member of the club you will need to belong to at least one committee.
Even if you are a "web" member, you can still participate
through the web page and emails. *

forget to submit your paragraph to become an officer. Email it, fax it, or drop
it by AAS50. Choose
a committee and consider if you would like to be a “Chair”. Try
to attend at least one conference, workshop, or speaker sometime this semester.
You learn a tremendous amount, and are able to network with teachers
working in the field. Try
to participate in a reading event at a local school.
You not only walk away with classroom experiences, but also get a great
opportunity to see the many management styles, and classroom environments. If
you find any other future teachers on campus - invite them to our next meeting! We want to hit our goal of 300 members this year, and 201
SCTA members. We also want to have
the largest group at the November Student leadership conference.
(Its in Santa Clara and only $15.00 if you pre-register). If
you are a Web member, please email me and let me know how we can better meet
your needs this next semester. We
want to provide a better means of access, communication and participation by
creating the committees. If
you have not received anything in the mail from us – then give us your address
again. If
you have not received any emails from us --- then give us your email address
again. Our meeting reminders,
conference reminders, and meeting summaries are sent by email only.
If you do not have an email address, stop by AAS50 and I can help you set
one up. That’s
