December 7th 2002 as a way to try it out and see how we do. For all those interested in taking the CBEST you need
to register on their web site at : http://www.cbest.nesinc.com/
We are planning on meeting in November to study before the test. Student
Leadership Conference:
Our goal is to have 20 club members attend the leadership conference in
November because it will be held in Santa Clara this year.
Last year it was held in Southern California.
Many of us have talked about staying at the hotel to be near the action
and have more time to visit the hundreds of other future teachers that will be
attending. Contact Mae,
Shauna, Daniel or any other officer as soon as possible to reserve your space. Europe
Trip is not a field study/survey of schools in California/Arizona: At
the last meeting we discussed the Europe trip.
We got a head count on who wanted to go, and some rough guest-aments on
costs. We wanted to get things
firmed up and put some deposits down to make it more real and get things moving
in the right direction. Mae
(who is also are advisor) said that she did not think that the department dean,
president, or school board would approve any international travel because of the
unknown possible "War". Mae
suggested choosing another destination --- and so there was great discussion.
In the end a new idea surfaced to tour several school and do a
survey/study that would include factors influencing education like class size,
health & safety of the classrooms, and technology available in the
classrooms. During
the visits we plan on conduct interviews and surveys in regards to technology
and “issues” that are a main concern of teachers, administrators, students
and parents. We
can research grants from companies like PBS, Intel, HP, Lucus Foundation, Etc. We would be representing West Valley
College, Teachers of Tomorrow Club,
SCTA, and the Silicon Valley perspective. (High Tech – angel). In preparation of the trip we need to
research diversity, technology, and other issues in a rural setting, urban
setting and reservation setting. Some
of us wanted to make sure we could visit Long Beach HS - where the "Freedom
Writers Diary's" was based, and Berkeley HS were the "Class
Dismissed" took place. We
also wanted to make sure we hit elementary schools in each city.
We also discussed visiting "Rural Schools", "Urban
Schools", and even a school on a reservation. I would also like to swing by the schools mentioned in the
Lucas Foundation film. Basically,
we brained stormed many ideas, and Mae guided us to many impacts that doing a
study/survey could provide. We can
write an analysis, write articles, document our trip, write journals, and this
research could be a great opportunity for not only "Grants" but also
scholarships. If this is done
well, it could be a springboard for trips each year.
Once
the "War" thing settles down, then we could go overseas and do the
same type of study/trip. ICC – Food Booth October 16, 2002 Our theme was “All American Teacher”
which means we sold hot dogs, apple pie, apples and rice crispy treats.
Our club earned $75.00 (Yea!!!)
Some ideas for next semester were: q

More

More

the IS department of all students in a CHS class, English Teacher Prep classes,
