Cesar Chavez
Cesar Chavez Day Event - 3/29/02On Friday March 29, 2002 the Teachers Of Tomorrow Club "Cesar Chavez Day" by sponsoring a reading event at local elementary schools. The fourth part of our mission statement is to "Serve" the local community especially local schools, teachers, and students. This event seemed like a great opportunity! Our student teachers choose to read "Cesar Chavez" a young reader book about the life of Cesar Chavez written by Lola M. Schaefer, Gail Saunders-Smith (Editor). Our main focus was at Capri Elementary School in Campbell California.
The student teachers not only felt great about reaching out to our local community schools, teachers, and students --- but also benefited by experiencing being in front of classes and doing what we dream of! We also got to experience the many different types of classrooms and teaching styles.
The children enjoyed the "Cesar Chavez" book and enjoyed saying "Helga!" (is Strike in Spanish). Shauna said "I love going into the classrooms and working with the children. I had a great time with the children and learned more about classroom management styles and the differences in grade levels".
Deborah stated "It was such fun working with the teachers and the children. The children were really excited to have us in the classrooms. I am looking forward to the next time we go out!"
