Meeting Summary
1. Meeting Times --- Adjusted a. Meetings will be monthly on the second Thursday evening from 6pm to 8pm. b. Meet in the Baltic room near the Cafeteria c. Have food and snacks at the meeting (This is important) d. Drawing for prizes e. Ice breakers --- get to know each other. f. Meeting dates and topics: i. Thursday September 11th Orientation and overview ii. Thursday October 9th Reading Development, Childrens Literature from PreK to High School, How to Story Tell, Guests from the library, Hicklebees, or Linden Tree. iii. Thursday November 13th Credential Panel, Information, Steps, Etc. iv. Thursday December 4th - Optional mini meeting because of finals and dead week. Maybe a CBEST Prep thing here --- or something else. v. Thursday January No meeting Winter Break vi. Thursday February 12th Teacher panel, PreK, K-6, Middle, H.S., Higher Ed, Voc Ed, Spec Ed. vii. Thursday March 11th Interview, Hiring, Job perspective in the future, guest principals, guest dept. of educ., other guests. viii. Thursday April 8th Portfolio / Resume night ix. Thursday May 13th (Maybe May 6th depending on dead week) Transfer Panel. College recruiters, college teacher club reps, students who already transferred. x. Thursday Jun 10th Awards Year-end pot luck --- after finals. 2. Mini Meetings a. Narrow/Specific topics or workshops (mini meetings) will be held occasionally on Friday from 2pm to 4pm. b. Only a few members would be interested in these small informal meetings c. Topics: i. Friday November 21st 2pm to 4pm Transfer Night Guest speakers ii. Friday Dec --- The mega meeting and mini meeting are combined CBEST Prep iii. Friday January NONE Winter Break --- Possible California Challenge iv. Friday February 20th 2pm to 4pm --- New student orientation / introduction to ed. v. Friday April 16th 2pm to 4pm Making a portfolio / Resume Workshop 3. Planning Meetings a. Planning meetings for all officers and/or leaders b. Topics: i. Friday September 19th 2pm to 4pm Elections ii. Friday October 17th 2pm to 4pm New officer orientation iii. Friday March 19th 2pm to 4pm Conference / Year end iv. Friday May 14th 2pm to 4pm interim officers 4. California Challenge a. CTA training on diversity. b. It consists of 8 training sessions (3hrs each). i. Ba, Fa, Ba Fa - Interactive cross-cultural game. Learn about culture and integration. ii. Understanding Cultural Diversity Teachers help students understand the various aspects of culture. iii. Communicating across cultures Techniques that provide a sound learning environment. iv. Culture and Conflict Problem solving information and strategies. v. Language, Learning and Culture Teaching the English language learner. vi. Multicultural Classroom Part 1 Design multicultural classroom. vii. Multicultural Classroom Part 2 Students learning styles and learning strategies. viii. Five Steps to Planning steps to multicultural curriculum. c. Saturdays two sessions that include a lunch i. Saturday October 4th 8:30 to 3:30 - Session 1 & 2 ii. Saturday October 18th 8:30 to 3:30 Session 3 & 4 iii. Saturday November 1st 8:30 to 3:30 Session 5 & 6 iv. Saturday November 15th 8:30 to 3:30 Session 7 & 8 d. Winter Break Mega week i. Help make flyers and posters for all of next year. b. August 7th 10am --- 6. Membership: a. Focus on benefits to members i. Text books book exchange ii. Text books speak with department deans have instructors put desk copies in library. iii. Favorite Teacher List What teachers do we like and why. (No negative remarks!) b. Goals: i. 40 active members at each meeting. c. Promotion i. Posters on campus in August & new ones each month. 1. Make all the posters on August 7th ii. Flyers on all boards in August & new ones each month. 1. Make all flyers on August 7th iii. Mini Flyer handouts 1. All team leaders 2. Slot on bulletin board iv. Stickers 1. All bulletin boards v. Glass Case by AAS13 1. Decorate & put pictures / flyers 2. Calendar whole year vi. Mail SCTA registration to all club members vii. Mail club registration to all CHS students, all Math for Elementary teachers, and Childrens Literature class. viii. Class Visitations 1. Visit English 1A classes 2. Visit Math for elementary children 3. Visit All CHS classes 4. Visit All Speech Classes ix. Visit Department Chairs Inform and build relationships x. Visit Counselors Inform and build relationships xi. Ad in newspaper each issue. xii. Story in newspaper xiii. Open House / Career Day presentation xiv. Club Ed at Westmont, Leigh, Prospect, or other high school in the area xv. Attend HS career days / college faire xvi. Bring a friend day/activity/prices xvii. Phone tree xviii. Survey 7. Club Rush a. All WVC clubs will have a table of information in the cafeteria. b. 10am to 1pm c. We need - you (club members) to stop by and work our table or just say hi. Below are the shifts we need volunteers for: i. 9:30 to 10:30 table set-up. ii. 10:30 to 12:30 promote the club/answer questions iii. 12:30 to 1:30 clean up. 8. Food Faire a. All WVC clubs will have a table in the cafeteria and sell food as a fundraiser. b. 11am to 2pm c. We need - you (club members) to stop by and help out in these ways: i. Donate some type of food deliver to the table by 10:30am ii. 10:30 to 11:30 table set-up & food prep. iii. 11:30 to 1:30 promote the club/answer questions iv. 1:30 to 2:30 clean-up. (Take home extra food) 9. Book Faire a. Have a table in the cafeteria and host a Scholastic Book Faire. b. Early December Christmas gifts. c. Fund/book raiser for the child development center and rosemary elementary. 10.
Reading at Rosemary a. Rosemary as been arranged by Mae Conroy b. Reading is from 10:00 to 12:00. c. Meet in the front office. 11.
