This event was not only an enjoyment for all that participated, but also gave us a chance to reach back into our own community and give back.  Many schools encouraged our club members to come back again.

One aspect of the Teachers Of Tomorrow Club mission statement has to do with Social responsibility and giving back to our local community.  Most of our club members live and grew-up in the local community of Santa Clara County.  We have a responsibility to give back to our community - especially to support the local schools and student population.  Eventually these same schools and communities will be where many of us will be teaching.

Next year we will definitely participate again!

Official Description of Read Across America

NEA's Read Across America will celebrate its FIFTH anniversary in March, 2002. Recording legend Garth Brooks is our honorary chair.
NEA's Read Across America is the celebration that's too big for just one day! NEA's Read Across America not only celebrates the joys of reading, but also honors Dr. Seuss, whose 98th birthday falls on March 2. Since the good doctor's birthday is on a Saturday in 2002, our official celebration will be on March 1, but lots of fun activities will take place on March 2 as well.
West Valley College - Teachers of Tomorrow Club will be sponsor a reading event at local K-12 schools.  Club members will read to a classroom of children wearing a Dr. Seuss hat, and then donate the book to the classroom.  Stickers will also be distributed to the children in the classrooms.
NEA's Read Across America is the biggest one-day literacy celebration in the U.S., if not the world. Last year on March 2, there were reading events in all 50 states (as well as several foreign countries) that attracted more than 35 million readers of all ages. This year we're expecting even more!

WVC Teachers For Tomorrow volunteers will be going into local schools, preschools and others areas to read Dr. Seuss books to children.
