Communication Studies 1: Public
Speaking
Public Speaking is a basic course in communication which emphasizes
the fundamentals of extemporaneous speaking. This course includes the study
of the role of the listener, understanding audience-speaker relationships, research,
organization, reasoning, and style. Preq: ENGL 905. Rec prep: ESL 65LS. This
course satisfies the 3 unit oral communication transfer requirement for IGETC
and CSU.
Communication Studies 4:
Small Group Discussion
Small Group Discussion is an introductory course designed to provide
students with theoretical and practical insights and experiences into the
interaction, information sharing, and decision making process of small groups.
Preq: ENGL 905. This course satisfies the AA degree and CSU transfer Area
E requirement. Credit/No Credit option.
Communication Studies 8:
Interpersonal Communication
Interpersonal Communication involves the practical communication skills
used in face-to-face settings, whether informal gathering, or in a formal
organization. This course satisfies the AA degree and CSU transfer Area E
requirement. Credit/No Credit option.
Communication Studies 10:
Persuasive Speaking
Persuasive Speaking is a basic course in communication with an emphasis
on composing and delivering effective persuasive speeches. Attention is given
to developing the ability to prepare and present persuasive messages and the
ability to listen critically and evaluate persuasive messages. Preq: ENGL

Intercultural Communication
Intercultural Communication focuses on the importance of culture and
its effect on communication. This course examines cultural communication patterns,
cultural adaptation and interpersonal effectiveness. Preq: ENGL 905. This

Effective Listening
Effective Listening is designed to help improve your listening skills
in a variety of situations. This activity oriented course emphasizes improving
memory and concentration, thinking critically, comprehending verbal and nonverbal
messages accurately, and improving the quality of your relationships. Preq:

Career Communication
Career Communication offers practical application of the communication
skills needed for public speaking, small group discussion, interpersonal relationships,
and interviewing situations. Preq: ENGL 905. This course satisfies the AA

Argumentation and Debate
Argumentation and Debate is a basic course in which a student will
learn how to discover and support intelligent decisions, and effectively present

Improving Relationships Through Communication
Improving Relationships through Communication is an investigation
into the concepts of communication as it relates to the human experience of
friendship through reading about and practicing specific communication skills.
Emphasis is on developing a wide range of skills which promote one-to-one
