Distance Learning FAQs
- Are Distance Learning courses fully
transferable college course accepted for credit at all California
universities?
Yes. Distance Learning course at West Valley College Virtual Campus are
fully transferrable.
- Are
there any special fees or hidden costs?
No. Course fees are the same as any on-campus course.
- Are
there required books to buy?
Yes, just like any other college course. They can be purchased from the
West Valley College Bookstore or through a number of online outlets
such as Amazon.com.
- How do we get our assignments?
Assignments and other course materials are usually found in the course
study guide or posted on a class web site. Specific information for
your course will be given to you during the orientation.
- How do we turn in our assignments?
Most student work is submitted, graded, and returned via e-mail or at
the tests.
- Do I
have to come on campus to take tests?
Yes. Most telecourses require students come to the campus to take
midterms and a final.
- When do these classes meet?
Students taking online courses are required to use e-mail to
communicate with the instructor and other students almost daily. You
might say that these classes are available for access in Cyberspace 24
hours a day.
Most Telecourses have a required orientation on-campus and then two or
three meetings throughout the semester for testing and review. The
times and dates will be given at the course orientation. Orientation
times and dates are listed in the schedule of classes.
Computer FAQs
- Why
am I unable to login to Angel??
Most problems arise from a student incorrectly constructing their login
name. Please note - your Angel login is NOT the same as your WebAdvisor
login! Refer to the page How to Login to Angel .
- My
browser does not display properly.
Angel courses have miminum browser requirements. In addition, AOL
browsers are not suitable for Angel classes. Refer to the page Browser Issues.
- My
browser will not display the necessary pop-up windows even after I have
disabled the pop-up blocker.
Be sure to check any third party utility applications for pop-up
blocking. For example, Norton Internet Security, ZoneAlarm firewalls,
and others have pop-up blocking set by default.
- What
are the minimum computer system hardware requirements for an online
course?
Almost any reasonably contemporary computer sytem with audio, a CD
drive and internet access will be adequate. Refer to the Hardware
Requirements section of the Browser Issues and Hardware
Requirements page.
