Our Brazilian Partners
West Valley and SJSU students accepted for participation in the exchange program will travel to
one of three universities: Universidade Federal de Itajubá and INATEL in Minas Gerais, or FUCAPI in Manaus, Amazonas.
UNIFEI

The Federal University of Itajubá was founded in 1913 and is located in the city of Itajubá,
Minas Gerais. The campus has six institutes for specialized engineering and science studies and various research laboratories.
The State of Minas Gerais is responsible for 19% of energy production in Brazil and because of the UNIFEI's strong ties with
regional hydroelectric plants, engineering students have full access to the plants and hands-on experience in energy production.
Currently, UNIFEI has 2,200 students and 270 professors and administrators. Most faculty have Ph.D in their fields and offer
graduate and post-graduate degrees Latu Sensu and Stricto Sensu courses in Mechanics, Energy, Production and Electrical Engineering,
Material Sciences.
INATEL
National Institute of Telecommunications, Santa Rita do Sapucaí, State of Minas Gerais,

The National Institute of Telecommunications was created in 1965 in the city of Santa Rita do Sapucaí,
State of Minas Gerais. The university is situated in a beautiful and green area with modern laboratories, technological and scientific
information centers. The INATEL is the pioneer in teaching telecommunications in Brazil and offers graduate degrees in Electrical and
Computing Engineering, and post-graduate degrees in Telecommunication Systems Networks Engineering and Digital TV Engineering. INATEL
works closely with regional businesses and as a result of a partnership with Linear Equipamentos EletrĂ´nicos the university is
developing transmission systems for Digital TV in Brazil. The INATEL Center for Excellence in Software is engaged development for
large corporations in Brazil and the U.S.
FUCAPI
Foundation for Analysis, Research and Technology Innovation, Manaus, State of Amazonas,

The Foundation for Analysis, Research and Technology Innovation was founded in 1982 to be the reference for
the industrial cluster of Manaus, a duty free zone with over 500 companies producing consumer electronic products from computer hardware
and peripherals, office and telecom equipments to motorcycles, watches, pens, and plastics. FUCAPI students and faculty are highly
engaged with the private sector developing research and training professionals in the State of Amazonas and several other Brazilian
States. The university offers graduation and post-graduation courses in Information Technology, Automation, Production and Digital
Engineering, Human Resources Development and Marketing. Through its center of environmental technology, the university works closely
with local industries to promote sustainable development in the the region and protect the Amazon forest.
