The Mathematics Department

Our faculty is very active in the mathematics education community. Most of us regularly attend conferences so as to keep up with current trends in teaching and learning. From time-to-time, several members give presentations on mathematics or teaching and learning at local, state, and nationwide conferences. Some of the faculty have written textbooks on community college mathematics topics. Nearly all the mathematics faculty belong to some professional mathematics organization.

West Valley College has a tutoring center where any student can get one free hour of one-on-one tutoring in most subjects. Drop-in tutoring is also available anytime the tutorial center is open. The tutorial center is located adjacent to the college's library. The mathematics department operates its own resource center. The Mathematics Resource Center is located in the room 5 of the Science/Mathematics building. It is staffed with student tutors and very often mathematics faculty members are present.
