MDEP Classes

MDEP courses typically involve classroom activities, pool work, and ocean training. Upon successful completion of an MDEP course, students will have an opportunity to earn various certifications. Courses being offered through the MDEP program include:

 

P.E. 7.23 - Beginning SCUBA

Students will obtain knowledge and skills associated with becoming a certified scuba diver through pool and classroom training. Qualified students may participate in an optional open water training weekend leading to scuba certification or they may obtain a universal referral form to participate in open water training at locations throughout the world. Students are not required to participate in open water training to receive credit or grade for the coursework.

P.E. 7.24 - Advanced SCUBA

This course is designed for certified SCUBA divers who are looking to enhance their skills and learn about advanced recreational SCUBA topics. The advanced course is modularized and students need only complete the sections they are interested in.

  • Nitrox (TDI certification available)
  • Navigation
  • Deep Diving
  • Boat Diving
  • Search and Recovery
  • Oxygen Therapy (DAN certification available)
  • CPR/First Aid (Red Cross certification available)
  • SCUBA Lifesaving and Accident Management (Rescue diver certification available)

 

P.E. 12.03 - Divemaster

This course provides the skills, knowledge, and experience required to administer on-site leadership or groups of certified divers during SCUBA diving activities. Certified divemasters are eligible to purchase professional liability insurance and work in the dive industry at locations throughout the world.

P.E. 12.04 - Assistant Instructor

This course provides the skills, knowledge, and experience required to assist in all phases of SCUBA instruction. Students gain proficiency in teaching standards, skills, and techniques for effective teaching of marine diving education. This course leads to certification in the Marine Diving Education Program (MDEP). This course is a stepping stone toward becoming a dive instructor or assisting in an instructional program.

P.E. 12.10 - Scientific Diver

This course will provide the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills required to effectively operate in research or scientific diving environments. The curriculum is being developed in accordance with AAUS standards.
