What is CAP and History

The Campus Assistance Program (CAP) has been helping West Valley College students, instructors, staff and the community since 1986. The members of CAP are instructors, counselors, and staff -- many of whom have encountered their own personal struggles with emotional issues and/or addictions and have found recovery, strength and hope in a variety of ways. They share that hope with anyone who is willing to take the risk to ask for help.
CAP members are not psychiatrists or therapists but advocates of the healing process. They are a support network. They are individuals that are here to encourage and guide you to recovery. Mainly, they are good listeners that empathize at a deep level. The identity and information of any individual who seeks out a CAP member for support and guidance is kept completely anonymous and private.
CAP members give support and suggestions, not direct advice. They encourage healing and recovery from addictions and emotional issues you are facing. They are here to help through compassion, kindness and understanding.

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

Mission Statement

The Campus Assistance Program (CAP) is a support network of instructors, staff and counselors provided for the single purpose of promoting emotional healing from addictions and/or emotional disorders or crisis. CAP's mission is one of guidance, support and encouragement to West Valley College students, staff and instructors in time of need. We do not give direct advice -- we are not therapists or psychiatrists. We do give suggestions, support and direction for recovery to anyone willing to heal. CAP services are free to the West Valley College community.

One Day at a Time.

Who are the members that can help you and why do they do it?

We are people who may have had our own personal addictions and/or emotional crises in our lives and have come though the pain to recovery and healing. We wish to share that healing with you in an anonymous and private way. We do it because in helping others find their way it helps us all stay strong.

There is no way to recovery…recovery is the way.

How to Contact a CAP Member:

If you are willing to take a leap of faith and the first step to recovery please contact a CAP member by Email. We can then talk to you via Email, phone or by appointment
