Usage Policies and Procedures

 

  The Technology Center is for the use of West Valley College students engaged in the completion of assignments and educational pursuits relative to current classes. Activities of a personal nature or not related to educational activities may result in termination of Tech Center privileges.

  Sign-in and out at the front window. A valid student ID card is required each time you check in to the Tech Center. Failure to present an ID card may restrict your ability to use the Tech Center: A one time Temporary Pass may be issued if deemed appropriate by the Lab Faculty Specialist (LFS).

  The Tech Center uses a pay-per-page printing system; a print card must be purchased by the student. The initial purchase of a print card requires a dollar bill. The Tech Center does not provide “change” and the cost of printing is the responsibility of the student. Use of printing papers not furnished by the Tech Center is prohibited.

  The Tech Center has limited equipment and resources, time and equipment usage may be restricted or unavailable at various times during the semester.

  The Tech Center LFS and assistants are here to help, ask them for information and assistance relative to general technical and software support. Specific assignments and related work are the responsibility of the student and the Tech Center staff should not be depended on to address issues relevant to individual classes, software or assignments. The Tech Center does not provide assignments, tutorials or other materials specific to classes, contact individual instructors for these resources.

  Responsibility for files and work effort are those of the individual. Save individual files to a USB drive or other appropriate storage device. The Tech Center cannot insure the accessibility of files saved to individual Lab computers.

  Insure that all work is saved and you are ready to exit the lab prior to the closing time listed. Failure to comply may result in your use of the Tech Center being restricted and/or revoked.

  The Tech Center is a work environment; socialization and interpersonal interaction needs to be maintained to a minimum. Only registered students are permitted in the Lab, all interaction with friends, family or others need be conducted outside the Lab. Children are not permitted in the Lab. Game playing in the Tech Center is prohibited.

  Cell phone usage is restricted to areas outside the Tech Center, Please step outside of the Tech Center if you must make a call. Turn your cell phone off or to vibrate mode while in the Lab.

  Consumption of any food or beverage is restricted. Containers are to be stored under the desk at all times.

  Copyright restrictions apply and all rights are reserved on all software and resource materials available at the Tech Center.

  Downloading and/or installing of any software applications are strictly prohibited and may result in loss of Lab privileges. Any downloading of video or audio files are to be for use in specific courses only.
