All West Valley College students are members of the Associated Students of West Valley College (ASWVC). The ASWVC is governed by the Student Senate, whose members, both elected and appointed, have many opportunities to shape the campus community.
Student government is a dynamic and challenging place to discover hidden talents, develop leadership skills, and meet new people. Students gain valuable skills through their direct involvement with campus programs and activities, active participation in policy-making and the participatory governance process at the campus, district, and state-wide level.
Socially active and or politically aware students may be interested in expanding their involvement, taking advantage of the many opportunities of leadership throughout the year, including conferences, classes, workshops, and retreats. Student Senate members also have access to Senate resources, including office space and campus voicemail/ email. The Student Senate is advised by the Director of the Student Activities and is supported by the Student Activities Office, with whom the Senate coordinates closely. Senate vacancies, which may exist year-round, are filled by appointment. Interested parties should contact the Student Senate or the Student Activities Office.
