Program Information

The Computer and Information Systems - Java Programming Emphasis Degree or Certificate in the Business Division is designed to prepare students for careers in software development using Java. Students have the opportunity to add elective Web Programming, (client-side or server-side), XML, Wireless Technologies, and Documentation courses to the certificate or degree. These additional courses are not listed in the degree and certificate requirements, they can be approved as a customized degree or certificate by contacting counselor Michael Byers, michael_byers@westvalley.edu.

Java courses transferable to universities are available in addition to WVC degree and certificate approved, non-transferable courses developed for updating programming skills. The Java series of courses begins with Java for non-programmers, developed for students new to code. Students with programming experience may enter the Java sequence at a more advanced level. Courses emphasize the development of commercial applications and are offered in day and evening sessions.
