Best Essays Contest & Anthology

An annual writing competition, which honors West Valley College's finest student writers, enrolled in the expository writing courses. The focus of the competition is mastery of the essay, including the literary analysis, argument, expository, narrative and research essays. Winning essays are published in the annual Best Essays Anthology. For more information, click here.

Writers on Writing

Writers on Writing (WOW) is a lecture series, providing West Valley students and the community with a unique opportunity to hear published authors discuss their work and writing process. Recent guests have included Maxine Hong Kingston, Al Young and another person. For a list of upcoming lectures, click here.

Department News:

Julie Maia and Dulce Gray were each  awarded the prestigious Fulbright fellowship, which allows American academics and professionals that opportunity to lecture and research abroad. During the summer or 2005, Julie will be traveling through India and Dulce  will be visiting Egypt.
