The Minority Advocacy Committee (MAC) monitors, advocates, and advises on diversity and minority issues on the West Valley College campus.

The purpose of this committee is to:

• Monitor institutional progress or the lack thereof in the area of minority recruitment, retention, and transition.

• Address issues of diversity as they relate to curriculum, faculty, and staff development.

• Serve as a body to address the issue of racism on campus.

• Obtain specific demographic data regarding minority recruitment/retention.

• Obtain information on institutional attitudes that inhibit the recruitment/retention of minority students.

• Bring forward specific recommendations regarding the design and implementation of an active recruitment/retention program at West Valley College.

MAC brings forth recommendations to the College President regarding strategies for overcoming institutional attitudes that inhibit the recruitment/retention of minority students, faculty, and staff.

MAC members serve two-year terms and may accept successive appointments. The faculty facilitator will coordinate the activities of the committee and serve a two-year term. The committee or subcommittees will meet a minimum of once every two months or as often as needed.

The current committee meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month during the school year.
