Vikings Capture 2 Wins in Modesto
October 2, 2005

Yesterday at the Modesto Tournament, West Valley had 3 placers, including two champions. Zac Taylor (157) and Josh DeSherlia (165) each took first place. Taylor defeated his opponent from Chabot 6-4 in overtime for an exciting win. Taylor has been in the finals of both tournaments he has wrestled in this year. DeSherlia defeated former high school state champion Chris Martinez (Fresno Pacific) in overtime also 6-4. Tommy Machado took his 2nd consecutive medal in the first two tournaments, finshing 3rd with a 4-1 record.

West Valley will compete against Skyline on Wed. @ West Valley College at 7pm.

West Valley Falls Short Against Fresno
September 28, 2005

West Valley lost a narrow match to Fresno City, the Sac City Championship team. The final dual meet score was Fresno 32 - West Valley 14. Zac Taylor and Josh DeShirlia both won major decisions for a quick 8-0 lead. Fresno responded with falls in the next four weights - 184, 197, Hwt & 125. Rich Nole (133) closed out the WVC scoring with a win on an injury default. Fresno won the final two bouts with a technical fall and a regular decision.

The Vikings return to action on Saturday 10/01/05 at the Modesto Tournament.

The next dual meet will be at Skyline on Wed. 10/05/05.

Vikings Finish 8th at Sac City Tournament
September 25, 2005

The WVC Wrestling team finished 8th out of 14 teams at the Sacramento City
Tournament on Saturday. Three placewinners led the way for the Vikings - Zac Taylor (157) - 2nd, Tommy Machado (149) - 4th, and Josh DeShirlia (165) - 5th.

Next up for the Vikings is a home meet versus Fresno City College on Wednesday September 28th. Stay tuned.

West Valley Hosts 3-Way Meet
September 17, 2005

West Valley hosted Cuesta and Skyline in a 3-way meet last Saturday In the 3-way format on two mats, all teams are wrestling every round.

Cuesta def. West Valley - 28-16
Cuesta def. Skyline - 43-9
West Valley def. Skyline - 48-0

Fernando Munoz (125), Tommy Machado (149), Johs DeShirlia (174) and Alejo Velasquez (197) all had two wins & no losses for West Valley. Other Vikings winning one bout were Steve Becerra (157), Rich Nole (141) and Jake Loredo (Hwt). Most of the wrestlers were up one or two weights due to the weight certification restrictions.

WVC will be on the road at Sacramento at the Sac. City Tournament on Saturday, September 24th. The next dual meet will be against Fresno City at the West Valley Pavillion on Wednesday, September 28th at 7pm.

West Valley Defeats Modesto
September 14, 2005

After falling behind by a total team score of 0-13, the Vikings came back to win
the first dual meet of 2005 by a score of 26-20.
West Valley came back with with five wins in the final seven bouts. Each team won five matches, with each team gaining six points each for a Forfeit. The diffenence was that the Vikings scored bigger in there individual bouts.

Leading the charge was Tommy Machado (149) and Josh DeShirlia (174) with falls. Zac Taylor (165) had a technical fall (24-8). Steve Becerra won by decision (11-4). Alejo Valasquez (197) received the forfeit.

West Vallley continues it opening week home stand with a three-way dual facing
Cuesta & Skyline on Saturday, September 17 at 11:00am at the WVC Pavillion.
