Jim Winkler – Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator
Coach Winkler joined the West Valley College football program in 2002 and was named the Vikings Head Football Coach in December 2008. During the Summer of 2008 he was a “guest coach” for the Canadian Football Leaques’ defending Grey Cup Champions, Sasketchewan Roughriders. Prior to joining the Viking family, Coach Winkler was an assistant coach at San Jose State University from 1998-2000 working with linebackers and the secondary. He was on staff at the University of Redlands from 1994-1998, the last two years working as the Defensive Coordinator. Prior to moving up to the college ranks, Coach Winkler spent four seasons working at the high school level in San Diego. In addition to coaching, Jim, spent over six years in the United State Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant at the conclusion of the Persian Gulf Conflict and Desert Storm. Before enlisting he played his college ball at Concordia University in Seward, NE. At Cheyenne Central High School he was selected as an unanimous all conference and all state outside linebacker and participated in the Wyoming All-Star Shrine Bowl.
Bill Laslett - Offensive Coordinator
Coach Laslett is going into his 16th year of College Football Coaching with previous experience which includes Head Coach at Phoenix College and Pima Community College in Arizona.
This is Coach Laslett’s 2nd stint at West Vally College Football after recently coaching Special Teams/Tight Ends and Director of Recruiting at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO.
After playing Wide Receiver for Southeastern Oklahoma State University and a Quality Control position for Baylor University Football, Coach Laslett became the Receivers Coach at Snow College in Utah and then the Offensive Coordinator at Fayetteville State University.
In 2004, he became part of the NFL staff at the College East/West Las Vegas Classic coaching Special Teams and Tight Ends.
Education includes a Master’s Degree from Baylor University in Physical Education, Health and Human Performance.
Robbie Parry – Special Teams Coordinator/Defensive Line
Coach Parry is in his third year as the secondary coach for the Vikings. Robbie was raised in Palo Alto and played his high school ball at Gunn, he then played junior college football at Santa Rosa JC, and then transferred to Aurora University. After graduating from Aurora, Parry began his coaching career at his alma mater. Coach Parry has also served at the assistant defensive coordinator at the College of Marin and most recently as the defensive coordinator at Gunn High School.
