Biography

Dr. Jennifer Johnson has over 15 years of experience in higher education. She started out teaching, and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Communication Studies, Cultural Studies, and Qualitative Research. She moved into an administrative position as General Education Chair at West Coast University overseeing programs across three locations in North Hollywood, Anaheim, and Ontario. She served as Dean of Humanities at Fresno City College from 2011-2018. Dr. Johnson moved into her current role as Dean of the School of Language Arts at West Valley College in 2018.

Dr. Johnson holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Planning, and Administration from the University of Southern California; MA in Communication Studies from California State University Northridge; and a BA in Communication Studies from the University of Southern California. Dr. Johnson has studied and worked in India, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and spent a year living in Mexico for her dissertation research. She is a California native, born and raised in the Los Angeles area. She is proud to have started her college journey at Los Angeles Pierce Community College.
