Lived Experience with Mental Illness

I came to WVC after a career change in the Spring of 1997 -- and never left! I began working at Student Health Services, Educational Transition Adult Re-entry Program, and Community Education in part-time positions. I updated my BA in Psychology from the University of Maine from 20 years earlier by enrolling in most of the psychology, counseling, and health ed courses at WVC. I also completed the Alcohol and Drug Studies Program at San Jose City College in 2001 and led the Student Recovery Program (SHARP) at WVC. I also facilitated the Strategies For Success Support Group for the Counseling Center. I trained to be a CPR/First Aid Instructor with the American Red Cross and began teaching courses at WVC and for the Title IV-E Collaborative.

In 2005, I entered graduate study at the University of San Francisco and completed the Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology in 2007. I trained as an intern at WVC Student Health and at the Bill Wilson Center, completed my 3000 hours, passed two comprehensive exams, and acquired my License in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2012. I am now the Supervisor of Mental Health Services at Student Health Services. I plan to retire in June of 2022 and retire to my home on the beach in my native State of Main

I live by the words -- Service Is The Rent We Pay For Our Time On Earth -- in both my Professional Life and in my Personal Life and Volunteer Work.
