The sequence of courses is only suggested and may vary. Some students may move through the machine portion of the program more quickly. Students are also recommended to take:
CTR 30B - Realtime and Legal Dictionary Building, and CTR 30C - Realtime and Medical Dictionary Building. Before beginning any court reporting or related technology program, the student should have keyboarding skills of at least 45 words per minute; the Computer Applications Department offers keyboarding classes. By the end of the program a student shall pass at least two 5-minute keyboarding tests with at least 60 gross wpm with a maximum of 5 errors.

A Certificate of Achievement in Court Reporting may be earned by students who have completed all required academic courses with at least a grade of "C" or "Credit", and have completed CTR 20A, 20B, 20C, 20D, (200 WPM Speed Goal), with a grade of "C" or better.

To be awarded an Associate of Science Degree

  1. All of the major requirements
  2. A 200-word-per-minute qoal speed building class (CTR 20A-D) with a grade of C or better or credit
  3. Additional units to meet the college graduation requirements.

Upon review of content, academic courses taken in a private court reporting school will be accepted toward qualifying for the CSR exam.

ORIENTATION: New and transfer students are required to attend a Court Reporting orientation meeting, the date of which is published in each semester's schedule of classes.
