Identity Centers | West Valley College

Identity Centers

The Identity Centers at West Valley College include the African American/Black Center, El Centro, and Pride Center. They are welcoming spaces where students can build community, explore their identities, and access resources that support their personal, academic, and leadership growth.

As part of West Valley College's Strategy and Equity area, the centers foster a sense of belonging for students from all backgrounds while honoring the diverse experiences that enrich our campus. Through cultural celebrations, educational programs, peer engagement, and collaborative events, they advance the college's commitment to equity, belonging, and student success.

Whether you're looking to connect with others who share your experiences, learn about different cultures and perspectives, or simply find a place to study and recharge, the Identity Centers are here for you. We invite all students to participate in our programs, attend events, and help create a campus community where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.

Community

We unify individuals across identities, backgrounds and experiences. Our caring and discerning community creates a sense of belonging for students.

Empowerment

We inspire students to find their agency and authentic voice to express their needs. Students feel empowered to explore their passions.

Intersectionality

We understand the complexity and beauty of the intersecting identities students bring into the world. We encourage students to embrace their whole self.

Growth

We believe that all students have the capacity to deepen their consciousness by building upon their unique lived experiences. Programs encourage students to bravely engage in challenging dialogues within a supportive space.

Solidarity

We cultivate support and advocacy for, and with, marginalized identities and communities. Programs provide opportunities for students to gain a deeper understanding of injustices and work towards social change in community.
