Get Started with 5 Easy Steps
This is where it all begins. Want to know how to apply to West Valley? Need money for tuition or books? Want to know what happens once you step through the door? Let’s get started.
Apply Online
- Submit an Online Application.
- You will receive a Confirmation Page upon submission. Please keep your confirmation number for future reference.
- Next, you will receive an email within 24 business hours with your student ID number, password and registration information. If you do not receive this email, please contact our Admissions Office at (408) 741-2001 or email: askwvc@westvalley.edu
Notes
- Students returning after 1 academic year must re-apply for Admission. Student ID#s will always remain the same.
- Make sure to clear any spam blockers on your computer so you receive important WVC emails.
- A paper version is available to print and submit to the Admissions and Records office.
Apply for Financial Aid
- Get help paying for college. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for help with your college costs.
- Complete the CCPG - California College Promise Grant (Formerly BOGW) and waive your enrollment fees and a portion of your parking fees.
- Need help? Call the Financial Aid Office at (408) 741-2024 or visit Financial Aid.
Complete Your Assessment
- All first time students are required to complete Assessments for English writing, reading and math.
- ESL (English as a Second Language) assessments are also available.
- Check the assessment schedule for information, times and locations.
Attend Orientation
- Improve your success in college by attending Orientation - learn about college, complete an Educational Plan and meet with a counselor.
- All first time students are required to attend Orientation.
- Register for Orientation on the WVCPortal.
- Different Orientation options are available: classes, workshops, and online.
Register for Classes
- Register for your classes on the WVCPortal.
- Pay your fees. Attend class. Let us know how we can assist you in reaching your goals.

- Remember, as a student, you are responsible to meet add and drop deadlines. Plan accordingly.
Winter/Spring 2019
Apply for Admission
New College Students, Returning Students, Concurrent Enrollment, Middle College and College Advantage may apply for admission beginning October 1, 2018.
- Students returning after 1 academic year must re-apply for Admission.
- Student ID numbers will always remain the same.
- If you do not received a Student ID# within 24 hours, contact the Admissions Office.
Apply for Financial Aid
After applying for Financial Aid, log into the Student Portal. Under Financial Aid, check your Award Letter and Documents for any further action required.
Take Assessment Tests
Students have two options to meet the Assessment requirement.
- Schedule Assessment Tests
- Submit Transcripts/AP Test Scores to the Assessment Office to clear prerequisites. Include your WVC student ID number, phone number, and specify the class you want to enter. Prerequisites must be cleared prior to registering for a class.
Attend Orientation
Register and complete an Orientation, which is required to receive priority registration and is recommended for all new matriculating college students.
Schedule of Classes
- Digital schedule is available online beginning October 12, 2018.
- Printed booklet is available at the Admissions office beginning October 12, 2018.
Register for Classes
All students can locate their assigned registration date in the Student Portal. Under Registration, click on: My Registration Date. See complete list of Priority Registration dates.

Pay Registration Fees
Option 1: Pay in full at time of registration

- In person at the Admissions office
Option 2: Create a Nelnet Payment Plan
West Valley College has partnered with Nelnet to make enrollment expenses more affordable.
- Visit Nelnet to begin your payment plan.
- Log into the Student Portal
- Click on: Student > Student Account > Nelnet Payment Options
Purchase Textbooks
Prior to the first day of class, view the required and recommended materials for your classes from the Viking Bookstore. Click on: Purchase Textbooks online. Then, enter the course information.
Obtain a Parking Permit
Purchase a Parking Permit online or in the Admissions Office prior to the beginning of the semester to avoid a parking violation.

Winter Session begins January 2, 2019.
Spring Semester begins January 28, 2019.
