First Year Cohort Interest Form

FYE is a year-long learning designed for students who welcome additional support and guidance to reach transfer, graduation, and career goals. FYE is ideal for first-generation college students. It's also a great way to build a success network of peers, instructors, and counselors.

Fall Semester Classes: College Success (Counseling 5), English 1A or 1A/99X with support, Statistics with support (Math 10/10C) or Pre-Calculus with support (Math 1/1C)

The Native/Indigenous Learning Community is a year-long community that emphasizes a rich understanding of the indigenous and AIAN (American Indian & Alaskan Native) experience, history and culture through both English and counseling classes. Students will have a dedicated academic counselor that supports them along their academic journey at West Valley College and participate in cultural activities and events connected with the broader native community.

Fall Semester Classes: College Success (Counseling 5) and English 1A

Puente is a Latinx-based, learning community designed to help students successfully transfer to 4-year universities and colleges. Students will build friendships, be paired with a professional mentor, learn from supportive faculty, and take classes in pursuit of transfer goals.

The West Valley College Umoja Community is a community committed to the academic success, personal growth, and self-actualization of African American/Black students. The Umoja Community seeks to educate the whole student mind, body, and spirit so students see themselves as valuable and worthy of an education.
