In its second year, community participation in West Valley College’s Annual Tour de Saratoga: Race to Raise attracted over 100 enthusiastic riders. New route options for cyclists in 2025 expanded from the original 10k course to include 20k and 30k loops, with longer routes proving the most popular. Also debuting for the second annual event was a Viking Kids Fun Ride. The special .75mile course for children ages 5 to 7 saw mini-Vikings — as WVC President Jennifer Taylor-Mendoza dubbed them — pedaling with a parent or guardian around the campus and school track.
President Taylor-Mendoza and Saratoga Mayor Belal Aftab kicked off the day with welcoming remarks, celebrating strong turnout for the new community tradition:
“Adding to the vibrant, community-centered atmosphere was one special family, riding together on a tandem bicycle, a true symbol of unity and spirit.”
“Their presence not only reflected their enthusiasm for the event but also their deep connection to West Valley College. Their eldest son, a proud West Valley alum, credits the college with giving him a profound sense of belonging during a pivotal time in his life. Now, he and his family have returned — not just to race, but to give back to the community that once supported him. I love seeing how our relationships with students come full circle.”
Created to unite neighbors and support the West Valley-Mission Foundation, the event attracted over 30 volunteers to lend a hand and cheer on cyclists. 22 total awards went to riders who finished at the top of each age group. All participants who completed the course earned a finisher’s medal.
With additional support from partners including WVM Police, Carbon Health, and Community Cycles, the event buzzed with energy and a sense of unity. Plans for the third annual race are underway for July 2026.
