West Valley College invites you — our campus community and neighbors — to make history and leave your mark on the new Performing Arts Center!
Join us from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Nov. 12 for a ceremony that will include a “sign the building” opportunity and shovel groundbreaking at the site of the future Performing Arts Center. Festivities will take place adjacent to the ground level of the Visual Arts Building at the northeast corner of campus. The celebration, including a live music performance by West Valley students, will be followed by light snacks.
Pre-event Tours Available
Tours of the building layout run from 3 to 3:30 p.m. with personal protective equipment including hard hats provided; participants must wear closed-toe shoes.
The future home to West Valley’s vibrant theater productions, live concerts, and more, our new 49,000-square-foot Performing Arts Center will bring student performers and faculty dedicated spaces to rehearse, perform, and collaborate. The project replaces the old music building and completely renovates and seismically upgrades the existing theater building, both built in the 1970s.
The new center will feature a 2,200-square-foot instrumental rehearsal and performance room, a 2,100-square-foot flexible performance space known as a black box, a newly renovated theater with up to 275 seats, and an 1,800-square-foot choral rehearsal room. Additional spaces include a lobby, classrooms, practice rooms, and a music library.
Student input helped shape the Performing Arts Center, including the name for a space called the Jam Lawn, envisioned as an outdoor space for playing music and gathering together between classes. Other priorities students voiced, such as a welcoming, central entrance were also incorporated into the design. Another gathering place tucked toward the back of the site, the Hub, will serve as a relaxing space for students, a green room for actors, and a support space for the lobby before and after performances.
All our welcome. Join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter at West Valley.
