Stationed under a West Valley College event canopy, WVC Student Ambassador Agnes Menlor flashes a genuine smile as she welcomes guests to her table, inviting each to select complimentary keychains, mousepads, and sunglasses in WVC blue and orange.
This recent event is one of hundreds staffed annually by eight WVC student ambassadors supporting Strategy & Equity and Outreach & Recruitment. Their mission: transform every interaction with West Valley into a welcoming, meaningful experience for prospective students and community members.
“I’ve been able to support high school students as they figure out their next steps and future goals, which makes the experience really rewarding,” said Agnes, a future nursing major. “Through this role, I’ve grown more confident and developed stronger communication skills.”
Increasingly visible at campus and community events, student ambassadors have earned a reputation for excellence, said Kailani Bowers, director of Outreach & Recruitment. Her team’s strategy centers on intentionally developing ambassadors as leaders and college representatives.
“Through ongoing mentorship, skill-building, and reflective guidance, we empower them to grow in confidence while promoting their authentic selves in every interaction,” Bowers said.
Whether tabling at community events, staffing the College Concierge Desk, leading campus tours, or supporting events from Juventud Rising to WVC Open House, student ambassadors serve with professionalism, warmth, and purpose.
