Greetings, West Valley College!
Summer has kicked off and I hope you are finding time to relax whether you are working on campus supporting students and programs or enjoying the entire summer break.
I have some important news to share.
Dr. Joshua Moon-Johnson has accepted a new role as the President at Connecticut State Community College—Manchester, Middlesex and Asnuntuck. Dr. Moon-Johnson’s last day at West Valley College will be July 25, 2025. Let’s join together to congratulate Dr. Moon-Johnson!
Over these past two years, I have so appreciated Joshua’s positive energy, compassion for all people, and care for our college and the communities we serve. He is a true social justice advocate. His intellect, communication talents, and team building skills have been a true asset to the college. And while I know we will miss him; I am so very happy for him as he takes on the president role.
We will begin the search immediately for an interim Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs to serve for the 2025-2026 academic year. In late Fall 2025, a search committee will be convened to seek a permanent Provost/Vice President to begin Fall 2026.
Please expect a campus invitation to Joshua’s farewell celebration in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
Following are two Summer reminders:
Tour de Saratoga
Please join us for the 2nd annual West Valley College Tour de Saratoga, a community bike event offering a variety of ride options for all skill levels. All participants are invited to enjoy the on-campus post-ride fun zone featuring vendors, music, food trucks, and more.
After a successful debut in 2024, West Valley proudly presents the return of Tour de Saratoga: Race to Raise on July 19, 2025.
The inaugural Tour de Saratoga: Race to Raise attracted more than 60 enthusiastic cyclists and dozens of volunteers for a 10K fun ride in celebration of our 60th Anniversary. This fantastic community bike ride traced a rectangular route along streets adjacent to campus. New for 2025 are 20K and 30K route options. Each is open to riders 10 years and older (younger children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). We are also delighted to introduce a Viking Kids Fun Ride, a .75-mile course for ages 5 to 7. Registration fees will benefit student success at West Valley College. After the ride, enjoy our Fun Zone with music, food truck treats, and family-friendly activities.
President’s Walking Open Office Hours
I am available this summer to walk the campus so join me. My walking office hours are Thursdays from 2:30-4:30 p.m. and Fridays 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Please contact Elizabeth%20Tablan to schedule a 30-minute time slot.
Look out for more college news and updates in the July 2025 President’s Message. Also, please visit the Office of the President webpage to stay connected and to review President’s Communications.
I hope to see you this summer!
In unity,
