MUSC 039J: Applied Music: Commercial Music Production

Course Description

This course is intended for the Music Department Career Technical Education Programs at West Valley College focusing on the individualized study and development of techniques pertaining to either recording arts, songwriting, music production, or creating music for media. Students are expected to take this course concurrently with their program capstone course. Instruction is comprised of both private lessons and studio master classes. Emphasis is placed on the development of techniques for commercial purposes. Achievement is evaluated by a jury of commercial music faculty through a portfolio presentation of completed works.

  • Grade Options: Letter Grade
  • In-Class Lecture Hours: 0
  • In-Class Lab Hours: 48 – 54
  • Note: Students attend 16-18 hours of Supplemental Instructional Hours, and 32-36 hours of scheduled class meetings.
  • Retake Policy: Repeatability for a total of four experiences is in accordance with CSU requirements for music majors.

    Prerequisite: Audition to demonstrate achievement of West Valley College course completions pertaining to the certificate and current enrollment of capstone course along with courses for certificate completion.
