Research Orientations for Student Success
Research orientations are a great way to introduce students to college research. Specialized instruction is offered to help students:
  • Reduce library anxiety
  • Understand the research process
  • Locate and evaluate books, articles and reputable websites
  • Recognize scholarly vs. popular articles
  • Utilize NoodleTools, a citation generator
We offer online synchronous and on-campus orientations in either your classroom or in The Village, V-7.
Textbooks 'n' Technology: One ZTC Option
Textbooks 'n' Technology (TnT) is a library program where students can borrow textbooks, Suface Gos, laptops, hot spots and graphing calculators for the entire semester. If your textbook is not represented in this collection, contact%20us to bring your class onboard!

For faculty who would like to advertise TnT to their students, we created the following blurb for you to copy, edit and paste into your syllabus.

Free Textbooks, Graphing Calculators and Surface Gos from the Library

Follow these instructions on borrowing free textbook(s) for this class. Our textbook is [put textbook title, author]. The book is being loaned on a first come, first served basis, so it is important to go to the library during the first week of class if you want a free textbook for the semester.

  1. Go to the library located in the Village, V-26 to pick up your textbook. Have a photo ID and our course name ready. You can't check out library material without a photo ID.
  2. The library also lends out Microsoft Surface Gos, Chromebooks, Dell laptops, hotspots, and graphing calculators on a first come, first served basis.
List of databases in Canvas
Library Databases: Another ZTC Option
The library is your partner in ZTC. We continue to investigate options in making content from our collection, both print and electronic, freely accessible to students.

To that end, the library has created instructions on how to embed database content directly into your Canvas courses. Streaming media, scholarly articles, newspaper articles and other resources can be used to create ZTC content. By embedding this content into Canvas, your students will be able to easily access it without having to login to the databases.

To start, look for content in the streaming media databases or articles in EBSCO or Gale databases.
  1. For streaming media, go to Databases (Find Articles) > All Database Types > Streaming Videos.
  2. Search for content in the databases. Once you have found a film, visit the WVC Online Faculty Resources course in Canvas and navigate to Faculty Library Resources. From there, you will see detailed instructions by database.
  3. For articles, go to Databases (Find Articles) > All Vendors/Providers and choose EBSCO or Gale. Once you find articles, follow the instructions on the Faculty Library Resources module to embed the articles.
NOTE: If you are unable to access the WVC Online Faculty Resources in Canvas, contact Whitney%20Clay or Max%20Gault for access.
