The wait is over — we are excited to announce the opening of the new Wang & Qu Family Learning Resource Commons! This marks the first step toward West Valley’s vision of a modern hub for learning, connection, and success, with students now enjoying early access to the innovative Student Success Center and Library. And this is just the beginning — even more spaces and services will be unveiled in the months ahead.
This milestone represents a bold investment in our students and our community. Thoughtfully designed to meet evolving needs of our expanding West Valley family, the Commons offers a modern environment filled with natural light, flexible study spaces, and cutting-edge technology — all created to inspire learning, collaboration, and achievement.

The new space changes everything. “It was time to open up to the light, open up to the natural beauty of our campus and the area where we live and work again,” Messer said. “This new library feels worthy of our campus community.”
Starting today, students can check out books and textbooks, reserve group study rooms, and access both Mac and PC workstations. The library has also launched the new “Ask a Librarian” live chat feature during open hours so students can connect directly with librarians online to assist with research or any learning needs.
The Success Center, also newly relocated to the LRC, provides free drop-in tutoring in nearly every subject offered at West Valley College. Students can get help with coursework, join ESL conversation groups, or connect with one of twenty-eight peer tutors on staff this semester.
While additional areas of the Learning Resource Commons — including the café, recording studios, and expanded program spaces — will debut at the grand opening early next year, this soft opening gives students immediate access to the college’s most in-demand resources.
“I’m excited to see this space fill up with people,” Messer said. “That’s what it was built for.”
Stay tuned for the grand opening of the Learning Research Commons building in Spring 2026.
