Associated Students of West Valley College (ASWVC) Application for Candidacy

General Candidate Commitments and Qualifications

  • Attend all weekly ASWVC or CAB meetings on Tuesday at 3:45 PM or Monday at 3:30 PM, respectively.
  • Attend any special meetings as called by the ASWVC or CAB President. - Serve on committees as appointed by the ASWVC President.
  • Check email for important communications
  • Must be enrolled in at least 5 units per semester at WVC
  • Abide by all Election Guidelines and Rules
  • Abide by ASWVC Constitution and Bylaws
  • Commit to the entire 2020-2021 school year
  • Available in August for training
  • Commit to working 10 paid hours per week.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher

Position Descriptions

ASWVC Executive Board Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Act as CEO and official spokesperson of the ASWVC
  • Chair for all ASWVC meetings
  • Have power to veto legislative actions of the ASWVC
  • Appoint temporary replacements for any vacancies until a permanent replacement is appointed
  • Form and dissolve committees, organizations, and associations in accordance with the ASWVC Bylaws
  • Appoint Senators to help with ASWVC programs, events, or business
  • Represent students at the West Valley-Mission District Board of Trustees meetings
  • Serve on the ASWVC Executive Board
  • Perform the duties of the President in the event of their absence or removal
  • Serve as the official parliamentarian (expert on parliamentary procedure)
  • Enforce rules, regulations, and procedures in accordance with the ASWVC Constitution and Bylaws
  • Serve on the ASWVC Executive Board
  • Maintain a record of Senators with voting rights
  • Act as a liaison between local, state, and federal government
  • Inform ASWVC of government legislation that is relevant to ASWVC
  • Represent and vote for ASWVC at Student Senate for the California Community Colleges (SSCCC) Region IV meetings
  • Give SSCCC reports at ASWVC meetings
  • Chair of Budget & Finance Committee
  • Serve on the ASWVC Executive Board
  • Maintain up to date account for ASWVC money
  • Submit report of financial status (income, expenses, reserve, and progress of budget) to the ASWVC
  • Maintain ASWVC records (agendas, minutes, committee records)
  • Serve on the ASWVC Executive Board
  • Record minutes of all ASWVC minutes and submit to the President prior to the next ASWVC meeting
  • Facilitate communication between students, ASWVC, administration, and faculty
  • Work as a liaison with the Campus Activities Board
  • Keep students up to date on issues affecting the WVC campus community
  • Manage ASWVC social media accounts
  • Provide updates on events that are easily accessible to WVC students
  • Serve on ASWVC Executive Board
  • Attend and represent students at the WVM District Board of Trustees
  • Report on actions taken at Board of Trustees meetings
  • Be responsible and accountable to the students of the district
  • Responsible for bringing attention to issues that have an impact on WVC students
  • Gather student input at ASWVC meetings
  • Serve on Board of Trustees as their external committee

Campus Activities Board Roles and Responsibilities

  • Act as CEO and official spokesperson of the Campus Activities Board
  • Chair for all Campus Activities Board meetings
  • Appoint temporary replacements for any vacancies until a permanent replacement is appointed
  • Report to the Dean of Student Equity regarding event needs
  • Function as project manager and coordinates all student-run campus activities
  • Keep students up to date on all events and issues affecting the WVC community
  • Provide updates on events to the Vice President of Marketing and Records of the ASWVC
  • Contact outside vendors for activities
  • Create an event calendar for the semester
  • Coordinate with clubs on campus
  • Give a report at regular ASWVC Senate meetings
  • Keep a record of all active clubs
  • Maintain up to date account for all CAB money
  • Submit a comprehensive report of income, expenses, and reserves include a progress report of the budget of the Campus Activities Board
  • Coordinate payment of outside vendors
  • Submit event approval to Dean of Student Services in advance of activity in accordance with ASWVC Bylaws
