Electra

Electra hero

Classical Greek/ European

Director: Amy Zsadanyi-Yale

Sophocles's tragic play Electra examines revenge and the ancient Greek “blood for blood” system of justice. Set in the city of Argos a few years after the Trojan War, the play tells of a bitter struggle for justice by Electra and her brother Orestes, who swear to avenge the murder of their father, Agamemnon, who had been killed by their mother, Clytemnestra, and her husband Aegisthus. Electra is widely considered to be Sophocles’s best character drama, due to the thoroughness of its examination of the morals and motives of Electra herself.
