The Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education for Transfer degree (AS-T in Early Childhood Education) is a 60 unit program which provides students the lower division coursework required for transfer to a CSU institution for the major in Child Development. Students who complete the Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education for Transfer degree (AS-T in Early Childhood Education) will be able to apply ethical guidelines and advocacy skills to maintain standards of high quality care and education for young children.

Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT): Early Childhood EducationAn ADT is a guaranteed pathway for transfer into the California State University (CSU) system. After earning an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Transfer degree students will be guaranteed admission to a CSU campus with junior standing. While admission to your campus of choice is not guaranteed, students will be given priority consideration for admission to their local CSU campus and to any CSU campus that offers a program that has been designated as “similar” by CSU.
Early Childhood Education is a vital component to our local, state, and national system of care and education for young children and offers many exciting career opportunities. The Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education is designed to prepare students to qualify for a variety of permits issued by the Teacher Credentialing, State of California. These permits include a master teacher, site supervisor, and program director permit. Receiving an A.S. in Early Childhood Education also meets the requirement to teach in a National Head Start Program.

**CHS 85 is required for students applying for the Title 5 California Department of Education Master Teacher, Site Supervisor, or Program Director permit.
***CHS 64 and 65 are required for students applying for the Title 5 California Department of Education Site Supervisor or Program Director permit.
****CHS 34A and 34B are required to work as an Early Intervention Assistant. NOTE: Students must also complete AS degree general education requirements for college graduation.

This certificate requires the successful completion of 33 semester units in coursework listed below plus 18 units in general education. This certificate satisfies the State Department of Education Title 5 coursework requirements for the Child Development Master Teacher Permit. This certificate is appropriate for adults who are interested in working as an assistant or paraprofessional in early intervention programs, early childhood special education and child development programs serving infants, toddlers, and young children with special needs and their families.

This certificate requires the successful completion of the required 8 courses listed and 6 units of electives (30 units) plus 18 units of general education. This certificate satisfies California Department of Education Title 5 coursework requirements for the Child Development Teacher Permit. In addition, it also satisfies the Department of Social Services Title 22 Community Care Licensing requirements for qualified pre-school teachers in a licensed early childhood program.
