Transfer Admission Guarantees (TAGs)

Transfer Admission Guarantees – TAG

West Valley offers Transfer Admission Guarantees (TAGs) to select University of California (UC), Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Private, and Out-of-State Universities. TAGs can allow a student to have priority review of their application to a four-year college/university, early admission notification, and guidance regarding their major prep and GE courses. TAGs may require that specific major and GE courses be completed by certain dates and with a minimum GPA. You should check with the college or university you want to have a TAG with to see what the requirements are for that school and major. We currently offer TAGs with the following institutions:

Six UC campuses offer the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) program for California community college students who meet specific requirements.

By participating in a TAG, you will receive early review of your academic records, early admission notification and specific guidance about major preparation and general education coursework.

Keep in mind: TAG applications are due Sept. 30th, but you can only apply for a TAG to one campus. You must also submit a regular UC application during their regular application period (Nov. 1st-30th). To keep your options open, apply to other UC campuses during the regular application cycle as well.

To be eligible for a UC TAG, students must:

  • Complete 30 transferable units at the time of TAG application (September 1-30)
  • Complete a minimum of 60 transferable units by the end of the spring semester prior to transfer
  • Complete all required major and GE coursework (dependent on major and campus)
  • Meet specific GPA requirements for major preparation coursework (dependent on major and campus)

For more information, contact the Honors Program Coordinators and/or email: wvc.honorsFREEWEST_VALLEY

For more information, you can schedule an appointment with a counselor or you can consult the UC TAG webpage.

We have a guaranteed transfer pathway to 37 historically black colleges and universities. Historically black colleges and universities were established primarily to serve the higher education needs of the African-American community, however they are open to students of any ethnicity. Students completing the CSU GE Breadth Requirements or the IGETC, an Associate degree for Transfer (ADT) and a 2.5 or higher GPA.

HBCUs are typically much smaller in student size than most California public institutions. The majority of classes are taught by professors rather than teaching assistants, in a nurturing and supportive environment. At an HBCU, there may be more opportunities for student leadership development. For more information, please visit the HBCU website, or go directly to the college/university you are interested in below.
