Courses may be offered in either or both of the following categories (as referenced in The California Code of Regulations, Title 5 §55752):

1. Courses in which all students are evaluated on a “Pass/No Pass” basis.

1. 1. When a course is offered in which credit is awarded on the basis of a single satisfactory standard of performance, the “Pass/No Pass” grading standard must be utilized. Pass (P) shall be awarded for meeting
      that standard and No Pass (NP) for failure to do so.
   2. Transfer of Credit Units: a student is responsible for checking with a counselor or transfer institution to determine any limitation on the transfer of credit units.
   3. Maximum Number of Credit Units: A maximum of 20 credit units of the “Pass/No Pass” type may be applied toward the completion of the associate degree; units earned on a Pass/No Pass basis shall not be
      used to calculate grade point averages. Pass/No Pass units attempted for which No Pass (NP) is recorded, however, shall be considered in probation and progress dismissal procedures.

2. Courses in which a student may elect on registration, or within a prescribed period, not to exceed the first 30 percent of the term, whether the basis of evaluation is to be “Pass/No Pass” or a letter grade.

1. 1. Courses in which such option exists will be so designated by the Department Chair in consultation with appropriate members of the Division faculty within each College.
   2. The utilization of courses graded on a “Pass/No Pass” basis to satisfy major or certificate requirements must be approved by the Department Chair in consultation with appropriate members of the Division faculty within each College.
   3. A maximum of 20 units toward an Associate degree may be applied from courses in which the student has elected a “Pass/No Pass” option.
